FAAM Mandate

  1. Provide a family-friendly atmosphere that encourages existing members to enjoy angling, as well as to reach out to and welcome new anglers. Much like our name suggests, we offer a family-friendly atmosphere of camaraderie with fellow anglers. We are not a group of elitists, we welcome anglers of all experience and skill levels, including beginners. Many of us speak Tagalog, some of us speak Ilocano, and all of our members appreciate and respect Filipino culture and heritage. We welcome any and all to become a part of our association, where members are expected to follow our group guidelines to ensure a pleasant and fulfilling experience for all.
  1. Share knowledge and education amongst anglers. Whether through casual conversation, someone sharing a presentation at our meetings, or on our online pages, our hope is that our members will become better anglers and that they will help others to learn as well.  Many of our members have learned most of what they know about angling through networking with other enthusiasts. During our meetings and events, we encourage members to share fishing reports, tips, and techniques.
  1. Organise group events and fishing trips. Our organisation has fun all year long by hosting association derbies and competitions, and organising excursions and family fishing daytrips. Many of our members are willing to welcome new co-anglers on their boats, giving those without their own boat an opportunity to get off shore and try something new. We provide our members opportunities to get their first experience of the world of competitive fishing with various events for fun and sometimes for prizes. We help our members to explore new waters and experiences as part of our group.
  1. Strive to make angling more affordable for our members. We seek to ensure that all of our members have the opportunity to obtain the gear and supplies needed to enjoy angling at a manageable cost. Our executive committee works each year to negotiate discounts and special offers for our members. Card-carrying FAAM members may be offered discounts at select local tackle retailers to help lower the cost of angling supplies. Our members are also occasionally eligible to receive special VIP offers and group buy discounts from angling and outdoors supply companies and manufacturers.
  1. Speak up as a strong collective voice representing the views and concerns of our community. Our executive committee and general members work together to have our viewpoints and input heard by legislators and policy makers regarding issues, initiatives, and policies that affect anglers in Manitoba. Things as macro as E-licensing or seasonal closures and possession limits, to micro level things such as the closing of a waterway access point are examples of the types of issues that we will work to influence and improve for all anglers.
  1. Encourage our members to contribute to and support the greater angling community. Our members are encouraged to support initiatives that grow and improve angling in Manitoba. Through volunteering to clean up a popular fishing spot, support a charitable derby, or help with conservation causes. We also educate and remind our members to practise sustainable and conservative angling practices.
